Oxford United’s pre-season continues to take shape with the announcement of a ‘double-header’ on Saturday 14th July.
The U’s will play two games that day, playing away at neighbours Oxford City and then away at Hampton and Richmond Borough the same afternoon.
Manager Karl Robinson explained:
“It’s a little bit different but we also think gives us a way for senior players to get minutes in competitive games. We start in Ireland where everyone will get 45 minutes in the first game, then 60 or 30 in the second and third.
“So then we wanted everyone to play 75 minutes and that will happen for one set of players at Oxford City before they will be subbed by the youth team, who will then follow along after the final whistle as we move on to Hampton and Richmond.
“Another group of players will kick off and play 75 minutes there, and by then the youth team will have arrived and be involved again, which means they have half an hour in total as well.
“I think it’s a good way for everyone to get games and makes it a really interesting day for us, and for the fans- I’m sure some will be doing both games as well!”
We will have news of another pre-season game right here tomorrow morning.
