Oxford United are pleased to announce that the Football Special bus services that bring fans to and from home league games will continue in the 2018/19 season.
The OX3 and OX7 services are operated by Thames Travel and bring fans to United home games from Carterton, Brize Norton, Witney, Eynsham, Botley, Kidlington, the Banbury Road, Summertown, Marston and Headington.
In summer 2016 we reported that the bus services were in danger of finishing due to being loss making, leading to the previous operator pulling out but since Thames Travel took over in October 2016 we have had a very positive response from fans and this has enabled both routes to continue, allowing fans to get to games.
Mick Brown, Oxford United’s club secretary told us:
“It’s good news for everyone really because a number of fans rely on the bus services to get to matches. We have an excellent relationship with Thames Travel and were both keen to keep the buses going which the fans have supported to make economically viable.
“Thames Travel are very good to work with and their flexible approach means that we are able to adjust things as required: the buses will be in operation on Good Friday, as usual, but running two and a quarter hours earlier because of the 12.45pm kick off. Hopefully they will be busy with fans coming along to get behind Karl Robinson in his first home game.”
