Oxford United Women Appoint New Interim Managers

Oxford United Women are pleased to announce the appointment of a new interim management team.

Liam Gilbert has been appointed interim First Team Manager with Matt Parry joining him as interim First Team Assistant Coach.

Both are UEFA B qualified coaches and are familiar faces in the women’s set up having coached the development team last season, the most successful in the club’s history.

Liam told us:

“It’s a very proud day to be asked to step up and we both want to thank the club for having such faith in us. We have worked well as a team together over the last 18 months and seeing players step up from the Development Side in to the first team has been really rewarding. Obviously there has been a fair amount of uncertainty this summer so our first task is to talk to the current players, both senior and development, and outline our plans to move the club forward. I am sure most of them will be up for the fight and hopefully will share our passion for keeping Oxford United Women at the heart of elite female sport  in the county.”

"We will also be looking to build a coaching team over the next month. It will be important for the club's future to bring in the right people who believe in the club's philosophies and growing the game within the county”

“Andy Cook has done a fantastic job and we thank him for what he had done for the team, but this will be a new era in the National League and it’s a fresh start and we can’t wait to get started.”

Matt echoed those sentiments:

“It’s going to be a busy summer. We would love to keep the same core group of players and it’s important that we keep the pathway open for the best local young players to progress into the first team; that’s something both of us are committed to. But we want to keep our options open as well. We will look to recruit new players to freshen things up and will hold trials in the next few weeks, for example.

“It’s exciting but we have gone in to it with our eyes wide open. We know it will be a huge challenge but we also know we have so much support from everyone at the club and from the fans. That’s half the battle and now it is up to us to start putting together a squad that we believe will challenge near the top of the table next season.”
