Oxford United are delighted to announce the signing of striker Sam Smith on a season-long loan from Reading.
Sam, 20, was born in Manchester and started as a youth player at Manchester United before moving south to join the Royals, where he has made eight senior appearances. He joins the U’s in time to train with the squad ahead of Saturday’s opening game at Barnsley and boss Karl Robinson welcomed him to the club:
“I think he is another excellent addition” he said. “I think most fans have known we were looking at Sam for much of the summer because we know all about the qualities he has and what he will bring to the club. He is quick, direct and will score goals and he also fits the profile of what we look for in a player: hungry for success and willing to work hard as part of a team to achieve that.
“We believe we have recruited very smartly this summer and there is no question that we are in a much healthier position now than we were at the end of last season. There are still a couple more players we are very close to signing so we believe we are going to be in a really good place by the time the season kicks off.”
