Oxford United Women got back to winning ways this weekend with a 3-1 victory against Aston Villa. United went a goal down but fought back with goals from Taome Oliver, Kayleigh Hines and Dan Carlton.
The Yellows looked determined to make up for their previous match and get back to playing how they were at the start of the season.
However, the home side found themselves behind after just five minutes when Ebony Salmon ran through the heart of the defence and slotted in left-footed.
Emily Allen and Dan Carlton were particularly prominent in the opening exchanges for Oxford; the pair often linked up well and Allen had a couple of half-chances from Carlton set-pieces.
In the 35th minute Oxford had their reply. Carlton floated a free-kick into the middle and Taome Oliver was there to improvise a flicked header backwards and into the net.
After the equaliser United looked strong, their confidence was back and even goalkeeper Demi Lambourne had the composure to dummy past an onrushing attacker.
Just after half time, in the 48th minute, Oxford won a free-kick on the corner of the box. Kayleigh Hines stepped up and did what she’d done twice already this season: curled a perfect free-kick into the top corner.
It took The Yellows only two minutes to score their third, Carlton pouncing on a defensive mistake to rocket the ball into the bottom corner.
Oxford remained composed as Villa looked for a response, Ellis Hillman miraculously clearing a shot off the line with her head. Meanwhile, Lambourne produced a number of fine saves to ensure her sides lead stayed at two.
The Yellows next game is an FA Cup fixture away at Cardiff City.
