Oxford United’s under 18s picked up their first win in the Merit League with a 1-0 win at home to Cambridge United on Saturday.
After drawing 2-2 with Southend the previous week the young U’s played some excellent football once again and scored the only goal of the game in the 11th minute when midfielder Aaron Heap won the ball in the opposition half and fed right back Dan Carr who moved the ball on for winger Albie Hopkins. Another exchange of passes involving Dejon Noel-Williams and Carr once more led to a cross from the right which Hopkins met inside the six yard box to score the only goal of the game.
Coach Leon Blackmore-Such told us:
“It was a good win and I thought we deserved it. We scored a decent goal and then it felt like we controlled a lot of the game. Credit to the defence because they did well and kept a clean sheet but over all it was a really solid team performance.”
