Oxford United will dust themselves down and go again when they travel to Northampton on Saturday.
A 1-0 defeat at home to Plymouth made it three losses in a row for the U’s, although caretaker boss Derek Fazackerley thought the result was harsh on his team after an improved display.
“In terms of the performance it was head and shoulders above last week where we were a little bit critical of the players” he told iFollow.
“We asked them to play with courage, discipline and control today and I thought they did that. Unfortunately we conceded just before half time having had a couple of good chances in the first half. We pretty much had them on the back foot throughout the second half but just couldn’t find a clear cut opening.
“The goal was a little soft, you have to say, but I sound like an old cracked record. Those things happen when you are on runs like this. We just have to have the same effort and application next week and I know we are capable of getting a result away at Northampton, a team that has mirrored us coming up the leagues over the last few years.
“I thought in terms of belief the players were far better playing in front of their own fans than last week and that was pleasing but when you get beat 1-0 that gets lost in the result. But we have to dust ourselves down, make sure we come in on Monday with the right mindset and prepare for the game at Northampton and try and get a positive result there.”
