The Yellow Army will be out in force once again as Oxford United head for Northampton on Saturday.
Another sell out away crowd is expected when United travel to Sixfields and caretaker boss Derek Fazackerley is hoping his side respond to the supporters as they try to end a three game losing streak.
“In some respects playing away from home takes a little bit of pressure off you" he told iFollow. "We got an excellent result at Charlton and although the result at Rotherham wasn’t great we didn’t think the performance was as bad as that result suggests. There will be a large away following who will make a lot of noise and it’s a good stadium once you get that atmosphere. Hopefully it encourages the players and helps them get the result that everybody wants.
“We’ve had three defeats on the trot which is never good. We were encouraged by the performance last week but at the end of the day we are paid to produce results and a win at Northampton would put a smile back on everyone’s faces. The teams have been up and down together for the last two or three years and there is a little bit of local rivalry so it’s a game we will be looking to perform well in and also take something out of.”
There could be a first appearance for midfielder Cameron Brannagan who has missed out so far through an ankle injury he suffered the first week after he joined from Liverpool:
“Cameron Brannagan has trained for the better part of two weeks and has got fitter and stronger as the days have gone on so he will certainly come into contention there’s no doubt about that” Fazackerley said. “Unfortunately we will miss Joe Rothwell for the next three or four weeks but Mike Williamson is looking a lot stronger, a lot fitter. Saturday may be a week too early for him but he will be back soon and one or two have come out of the treatment room now and added to the options that we have got and hopefully we can pick a squad on Saturday that can go there and get a result.”
