PREVIEW Newport County v Oxford United

TEAM NEWS

Boss Karl Robinson will make changes after the win over Burton on Saturday, Ricky Holmes, a scoring substitute at the weekend will be rested after a back injury while Jamie Mackie also misses out after an injection in a hip injury which will keep him out of action until later in the week. With Marcus Browne also likely to miss out with a knee injury there could be an opportunity for Shandon Baptiste, Man of the Match in the last round against Coventry.

Samir Carruthers, Simon Eastwood and Rob Hall are again ruled out with longer term injuries which could mean a chance for some of the Under 23 squad, although they also have a cup game this week- away at Southend United on Wednesday evening.

THE OPPOSITION

Newport have a 100% record at Rodney Parade this season and have won their last six games there, including a victory over Grimsby Town on Saturday in which former U's striker Wes Thomas was sent off for the visitors. Goalscorer Matt Dolan, whose free kick lifted the Exiled into 5th in League 2 said

“We have to make this place a fortress and when the fans are bouncing, there aren’t many better atmospheres in this league.Although it may not be the biggest stadium, we have a great following home and away and obviously that spurs us on when we are 1-0 up last 10 minutes and they are still shouting.

“They are really our 12th man and as long as we can keep them behind us and keep putting on performances that warrant them to keep coming back; I’m sure as a football club we will keep going in the right direction.”

“We believe in ourselves up against any opposition – that’s the confidence in the dressing room. Oxford are a good side who obviously haven’t got off to the greatest of starts but I am sure they will come here and they will know what we are about. We'll take the game to them and hopefully we can get a win and a big draw."
