REACTION: Karl Robinson makes his point against Oldham

Head Coach Karl Robinson was quick to praise the fans as his Oxford United side picked up a point against Oldham on Saturday.

The U’s have three home games this week and a point against the Latics helped pull them a point clear of a number of clubs chasing them

“The fans were outstanding, they really were” he told iFollow. “And the players gave me absolutely everything. I think we can be more aggressive when we get into the final third - more shots more crosses. We have goalscorers in the team who should be more efficient in what they do but today I was proud of my back four and the team for keeping a clean sheet. We worked hard to keep the back doors closed in training this week and worked hard on set pieces, for and against. I also thought we should have had a penalty because Jon Obika had his foot clipped in the first half but we are all ifs and buts and the big positive was that the work ethic was first class.

“Someone said to me ‘you are still waiting for your first win’ but it’s not about me at all, it’s all about this club staying up. If we do that by drawing every game between now and the end of the season I do no care. Not losing is a discipline and we have to learn the importance of picking up a point, keeping Oldham below us, gaining a point on the other teams around us. When you are going for promotion it is all about chasing three points every time but hopefully that’s us next season.

“Right now we just need a break of the ball. We are millimetres away at times but those only turn into goals if you work hard, and if we produce another performance like that against Fleetwood on Tuesday night we will be all right. We are a win away from 50 points now where we can all breathe a sigh of relief and look forward to the summer.”
