Manor Legend Joe Cooke is Guest of Honour

We are delighted to have another true Manor Legend as our guest on Saturday when Joe Cooke joins us for the last home game of the season against Rochdale.

Joe played 79 games for the U’s, scoring 13 goals after signing from Peterborough for £50,000 in the summer of 1979. A star for Bradford as well as Wrexham in their famous European adventures, Joe was equally at home up front or in the heart of defence .

“Basically, as much as we were scoring goals we were letting them in and I did start off as a centre-half; I could play both positions” he told us this week. “The Manager at the time, Bill Asprey, knew I was a centre-half as well so I went back to centre-half to help the defence.”

Joe captained both Oxford and our visitors Rochdale and is looking forward to seeing two of his former sides in action:

“I do come down on occasion as I go to see my brother-in-law who’s the Provost at Queens. I do follow the results of all the clubs I’ve been with. My brother-in-law does go and watch Oxford on a regular basis and so I do follow their results, and those of Bradford, of course. “
