Defender Christian Ribeiro is likely to be missing for the next couple of games for Oxford United.
The Welsh international defender was due to start Saturday’s 3-0 win over Gillingham but felt a twinge in his knee during the warm up and was replaced in the starting eleven by Canice Carroll, capping a good week for the young defender who also captained the Republic of Ireland under 19 side to a 2-1 win over the Czech Republic on Monday.
Ribeiro was on the treatment table today but Manager Pep Clotet confirmed that the injury is hopefully not serious
“It doesn’t look that way” he told iFollow. “Ribs just felt a pain and did the right thing telling us rather than risk it in the game. We believe he will be maybe seven to ten days before he is available again, so he will miss Bradford and probably the game at Blackpool on Saturday.”
Striker Jon Obika is likely to be out for a similar length of time but there was good news from the treatment room with midfielder Josh Ashby playing 60 minutes of a training game on Saturday and Sam Long given the all clear to resume training later this week.
