Oxford United head for Bristol Rovers on Saturday with boss Pep Clotet looking for his side to build on a promising run. Good wins at Peterborough and at home to AFC Wimbledon have moved United into the top ten but Pep knows that a game against the Gas is never easy:
“We know how hard it is to win games and we know that it is a hard place to go and win but we have our feet on the ground after two good performances and just want to keep improving and obviously try to get a good result on Saturday” he told iFollow.
The home side had a great 6-0 win at Northampton last weekend which will leave them buzzing ahead of their game against the U’s.
“Rovers had a good result” Pep admitted. “You have to do a lot of things right to get that sort of result. They will have a massive amount of confidence which will be in their favour so we have to be on top of our game and play to our strengths.
“There have been a lots of ups and downs and the season hasn’t really stabilised yet in League 1. As it goes on teams will start to become more stable but at the moment all you can do is try and take small steps and always try to keep moving forwards. You have to do that without falling into the traps that this league has for you.”
United could be boosted by the return of striker Jon Obika who has been in full training this week alongside defender Dwight Tiendalli.
“He is very close” Pep said. “He has been training all week although I don’t want to take too many risks. Dwight is also getting to the final stages and has been working with the squad all week so he is very close as well.”
