Oxford United will be proudly sporting special one-off poppy shirts this Saturday when we welcome Northampton Town to Grenoble Road in Sky Bet League 1.
The whole first team squad will be wearing specially commissioned shirts with the poppy printed on the front to raise awareness and funds for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
Chairman Darryl Eales has made a very generous offer to buy all 18 shirts, with that money donated to the British Legion as he explained:
“We are very proud to support the Poppy Appeal. The players will wear the shirts, Pep and the coaching staff will all be wearing poppies as well and I wanted to make a personal donation to the appeal too.
“We have auctioned the shirts in previous years but wanted to find a new way of raising even more money. It seems like a practical idea if I buy the shirts and then I know there are collectors out there; if anyone would like one then get in touch and we can hopefully raise a second sum of money and also auction one or two shirts at events through the season as well.
“The money goes to a fantastic cause and I hope that fans also buy a poppy on Saturday when they will be on sale around the ground.”
There will be a minute’s silence before kick off on Saturday while the poppy will also appear on the cover of the matchday programme.
