U's get set for Iron test
Oxford United welcome Scunthorpe United to Grenoble Road on Saturday with Head Coach Michael Appleton looking for his side to make amends after a defeat at Oldham on Tuesday night.
“We have a lot of games in a short space of time” Michael told Yellow Player HD. “Some people avoided the word but the players were jaded on Tuesday, no doubt about it. It’s up to me to freshen it up.”
United face two home games in quick succession, first Scunthorpe and then Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday night.
“It’s the first of two home games in three days against sides in the top six and pushing to get out of the division” Michael said. “It is going to be a good test. I have said it plenty of times that we have progressed as a team this season and this will be another good gauge. Hopefully we can put in a performance that gets rid of the memories of Tuesday night.”
Michael comes up against an old friend and teammate on Saturday in Scunthorpe boss Graham Alexander.
“We were at Preston for two and a half years together and had a great time in a very successful side under David Moyes” Michael told us.” Graham ended up staying a lot longer than I did in the end and then did great as Manager at Fleetwood.
“Scunthorpe are going through a little bit of a tricky spell at the moment after being fantastic for five or six months of the season but it looks as though they have come through that now after Tuesday night. I just hope his progress is halted on Saturday.”
