Spanish striker signs for the U's
Oxford United have completed the signing of West Ham United striker Toni Martinez on loan until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old forward started his career at Valencia before a £2.4m move to West Ham last summer. He has been in great form for the West Ham Development side with a hat-trick against Wolves taking him to 12 goals from 11 appearances for the Hammers.
Head Coach Michael Appleton said:
“It’s an exciting signing. He has a terrific scoring record and is very highly thought of at West Ham so it is great that clubs think of Oxford United as a club where we help nurture talented young footballers and help their development.
“He will certainly add some serious competition for us at the top of the pitch.”
Toni told us
“This is a great opportunity at a very good club. It is an important step for me and one I am really looking forward to.”
The striker is ineligible in the Checkatrade Trophy, having scored twice for West Ham against Coventry City earlier in the competition, but will be part of United’s squad for the sold out FA Cup tie at home to Newcastle United on Saturday.
