One Love- make a date with the U's on Valentine's Night
Oxford United look to make it six wins in a row as they welcome Southend United to Grenoble Road on Tuesday evening. A late winner from Kane Hemmings gave United a fifth straight win on Saturday as they beat MK Dons 1-0 although even full back Marvin Johnson admits they left it late:
“It got to a stage where we were maybe thinking it was going to be 0-0 like at their place” he told Yellow Player HD this morning. “But we never settle for one point and we got our reward for that in the end. Kane comes on and, like he has shown plenty of times, he scores goals and it was a good finish. We might have got another but as long as we got the three points that’s all that matters.”
United now start a run of Saturday-Tuesday games, but as Marvin says, when you are in good form the games can’t come quick enough:
“I guess when you’ve got the momentum going for you and you are on a good run then yes, you do want another match rather than waiting a full week to play again. We’d rather be playing again to try and keep the run going while the lads are so full of confidence. That’s perfect timing for us.”
However United come up against a strong Southend side who have had the better of the two previous meetings between the teams this season.
“It will be a different sort of game” Marvin said. “Southend play a different style to MK Dons and we have to adapt to that but also stick to our own game plan and peg them back. We’re looking forward to it and would love to keep the run going and get another win under our belts.”
