Oxford United have completed the signing of forward Gino Van Kessel on a season long loan from Slavia Prague.
Originally with AZ Alkmaar, Van Kessel joined Ajax in 2012 before moving to France to play for Arles-Avignon in 2014. A successful spell at Trencin, where he scored 23 times in 47 games earned him a move to Prague for over a million euros, where he played in the Europa League before ending last season on loan at Gdansk in the Polish top flight. The Curaçao international has scored 7 times in 17 games for his country.
Gino came through a medical this morning and joins with an option for a permanent transfer and Manager Pep Clotet said:
“He's a strong, pacy and prolific striker who I've been tracking closely for a long time, I wanted to bring him to Leeds last season but in the end the opportunity to work together has arisen here at Oxford, which is pleasing.
“He has proved his goalscoring ability not only in different European leagues but with his national team too and he's really motivated to play here, so we believe he represents a very good addition to our squad.”
