Youngsters get their chance at the U's
There was a glimpse of the future last night when eight young men with the world at their feet were introduced to the Oxford United fans.
The U's have offered eight young footballers a chance to become scholars at the club from next season and coach Leon Blackmore Such told us:
“It was good to get them to the game and make them feel part of matchday because the plan in the long term is for them to keep progressing and try and earn professional contracts. They are all good players who have progressed through the system and impressed us.
“All of them have played in the youth team already to give them a taste of games at that level and hopefully they come back in the summer raring to go and ready to work hard over the next two years.”
The players offered scholarships are
Name Position From
Owen James Forward Buckingham
Kyran Lofthouse Forward Rose Hill
Aaron McCreadie Midfield Eynsham
Harry McDonnell Defender Reading
Freddie Niblett Defender Birmingham
Jack Stevens Forward Reading
Ryan Crooks Forward Bicester
James Cowan Midfield Portsmouth
We look forward to reporting on their progress over the next few years....
