Appleton delight to get back-to-back wins
After United's 1-0 win over Gillingham on Tuesday night, Michael Appleton expressed his delight at securing a second win in just four days.
It was a particularly good week for Marvin Johnson. United's Deadline Day signing started the game at left back and scored his first goal for the club to earn the victory just three days after his partner gave birth. Appleton was very pleased for Johnson:
"Marvin's not had much sleep. It's debatable if he'd have played tonight were it not for Skarzy's injury on Saturday and Robbie Hall just coming back from injury. He looked a little bit leggy tonight but had a fantastic first half hour or so but to have the baby on Saturday and then score his first goal it's been a fantastic week for him."
Reflecting on the season so far, Appleton said: "We're still slightly frustrated because we've been better than the points tally suggests but you have to take it on the chin. Two games ago it was looking like it was going to be a long winter. That still could happen and the players are aware of that but ultimately we want to continue the success we've had in the last two games and what better place to go than Scunthorpe who are flying high at the top of the league. It's going to be very difficult."
