U's still on the front foot - Appleton
Oxford United and Plymouth Argyle were left with a point apiece after a fine advertisement for League 2 football at Home Park on Saturday.
Twice ahead, United were pegged back by third place Argyle but stay in second place in the table. Yellow Player HD asked Michael Appleton whether it was a hard-earned point or two dropped?
“Looking at the game I’d say definitely two dropped, but hindsight’s a wonderful thing. I think if you’d said before the game that we’d still be on the front foot and ahead of them then we’d have been happy with that.
“The way the game panned out, I thought the players did ever so well and played really well; we looked as if we were going to score every time we attacked. Just that little bit of attention to detail cost us today.”
United opened the scoring from a corner but will have been disappointed to also conceded twice from corners at the other end.
“We have been good of late from set plays, and scored our first from one” Michael said. “It was a little bit disappointing to then concede two from corners, as you can probably imagine. But then again you look at it and we did more than enough to go on and win the game; we had the chances to win three or four games really.
“Other sides are chasing both of us but the reality is we have the points in the bag and both teams are playing well. The lads are in a good vein of form at the minute; it doesn’t matter who comes into the team, they seem to do the business.
“They will get a few days now to recuperate because we have had a long period of Saturday/Tuesday games. , then we will come in raring to go in the middle of the week and building towards another important game at home to Orient on Saturday.”
