Firepower: who was the best Oxford United goalscorer?
Everyone loves the goalscorers. The man who puts the ball in the net is the man who wins all the plaudits, and over the years the U's have been blessed with some extraordinary forward players. Most recently, James Constable smashed club records with his goalscoring exploits both in the Conference and the Football League. Before him, Steve Basham was a fans' favourite, while Tommy Mooney and Paul Moody both found goals easy to come by. Dean Saunders, John Durnin and Martin Foyle all did the club proud, while no one would dispute John Aldridge's claim to be nominated.
Going back further, Steve Biggins and Colin Booth both broke records, while Hugh Curran and Nigel Cassidy formed a formidable partnership. Earlier still, and Bud Houghton and Tony Jones wrote their names into the U's history with their goalscoring exploits.
