Young defender gets her chance as Oxford United Women prepare for Kick Off
Oxford United Women’s preparations for the new season are now complete with highly promising defender Riva Casley agreeing a contract as she steps up from the Development sides.Riva, 17, has already been called into the England under 17 squad thanks to her commanding performances for the U’s’ girls teams and she will now become part of Les Taylor’s senior squad at Oxford as they prepare for the big Kick Off in WSL2 this week.
"I have watched at first hand Riva`s development within our Girls Centre of Excellence and also at International level.” Les said. “Her progression over the last year or so has meant that Riva has earned the opportunity with the Women`s first team.
“Riva is a centre back who first and foremost can defend, she is comfortable on the ball, has pace and reads the game well.
“Being involved in WSL 2 will only enhance her game. She is a valuable addition to our team."
Riva said
“It's a privilege to be offered the contract to step up and into the WSL. The club alone have done a lot for me and I am honoured that they have given me the opportunity to continue my career and step into the Women's team at such a young age.
“I look forward to continuing the hard work and doing my best for the club.”
Riva will be part of the squad for Thursday night’s opening game of the new season when United welcome Millwall Lionesses to Northcourt Road, Abingdon (7.45pm)
There will be activities for all the family in the build up to the match and it promises to be a great way to start the Easter holidays.
