U's youngsters leave for Norway
Youngsters Aidan Hawtin and Sam Humphreys are about to embark on a brand new adventure as they head for Norway.
The pair have been part of the Oxford United youth development system and regulars in the Development side, and both made their debuts in the Football League last season for the U’s. However, first team opportunities have been hard to come by this season and the pair flew out to Norway last week to have a look at FC Valdres who play in the Norwegian Leagues.
Having been impressed by what they saw, both in terms of the facilities and the opportunity, the pair and the club have agreed to cancel their contracts with the U’s by mutual consent to allow them to pursue new avenues in Norway.
Head Coach Michael Appleton said:
“ First and foremost we’d like to thank Aidan and Sam for their hard work and everything they have given the club over the years. They are both good players but also bright lads who are a credit to their families.
“They have done ever so well but this is a fantastic opportunity for them and one we think will give them great experience while also playing regular football.”
Sam told us:
”It is a fantastic opportunity for me to develop as a footballer but also as a person, playing first team football in a foreign country which I believe will be an invaluable experience in the future.”
Aidan echoed Sam’s thoughts, telling us:
“I think it is a chance that we couldn’t turn down. Not just the football and playing regularly in a foreign country, but also the change in lifestyle. Hopefully this will be an experience that will live with me forever.”
Everyone at the club wishes Aidan and Sam the best of luck for the future.
