Kassam Stadium record as United get set for the new season
Oxford United fans have backed the U’s in fantastic style this summer and we are delighted to announce that season ticket sales for the 2016/17 season will be a new record high, even before a ball is kicked.
This afternoon season ticket number 4,346 was sold, beating the previous record at the Kassam Stadium, set in 2011/12.
With United competing in League 1 for the first time in 15 years and the squad taking shape, the Yellow Army have got behind the club in record numbers as everyone prepares for the new campaign.
That figure is all the more remarkable because the previous record was at the end of the season, when half season tickets and further sales had been included.
The #OX4Life package for under 13s has proved extremely popular: 793 junior season tickets have been bought. The central block in the North Stand, never previously available, has also seen plenty of interest with fans rushing this week to buy seats in that area.
Managing Director Greig Box Turnbull said: “The buzz and spirit around the club is palpable and everyone is looking forward to the new season with great optimism.
“It’s fantastic news to have broken the season ticket sales record for the stadium, it just goes to show how far the club has come under the stewardship of Darryl and Michael. It’s great to see so many United fans embracing the new era of the club and I’ve no doubt they will back the team brilliantly again this season.
“The ticket office staff have done a brilliant job and it would be wonderful to kick on for the fans to really set the record even higher.”
