After the drama of the FA Cup it is back to the Sky Bet League promotion chase for Oxford United this Sunday as we welcome Bristol Rovers to the Kassam Stadium.
A sell out crowd of close to 12,000 people were here to see the U’s beat the Swans 3-2 last weekend and we want as many fans to come along and get behind the team as possible once again for what should be a fantastic game against the Pirates.
So far though, the fans have been slow to return despite the fantastic entertainment on offer last weekend. Only just over 500 home seats had been sold for Sunday, on top of season tickets and a sold out away following from Bristol.
“The backing was fantastic on Sunday, it was brilliant to see this place full and it quite clearly lifted the players” Chairman Darryl Eales said. “But I have to say I’m really disappointed that only 500 people have bought tickets for the Bristol Rovers game.
“In our eyes this match is even bigger than the Swansea game. Our priority this season is to get out of League Two and we desperately need the people of Oxfordshire to get behind us again.”
Head Coach Michael Appleton is calling on fans to come along and get behind his side once again on Sunday:
“All the players have commented on how good the atmosphere was against Swansea. When we went a goal down you could feel the crowd lift the players to go again. The fans were incredible and we’d love this place rocking for all the big games we’ve got coming up.”
