Austrian team are our guests this Saturday
Oxford United are delighted to announce that our good friends from SC Wiener Neustadt will be our guests of honour at Saturday’s FA Cup game against Blackburn Rovers.
The Austrian club were the perfect hosts when the U’s went to Austria in pre-season, with the teams playing out a 0-0 draw in front of fantastic support from the Yellow Army.
Now Wiener Neustadt’s under 18 side are coming to Oxford to visit the U’s and take part in two games.
Coach Russ Bradbury and his Austrian side will arrive in the UK in time to come to the Kassam Stadium for the FA Cup fourth round tie against Blackburn where they will meet the first team and take part in a half time penalty shoot-out.
We are inviting as many fans who travelled to Austria as possible to come along and meet Russ and his team for a bit of a reunion in the Manor Bar before that game, or to pop along to the Training Ground on Sunday 31st when SC Wiener Neustadt’s under 18s will take on the Oxford United under 16 side (11am).
On Monday 1st February there will be another game when they play the U’s’ youth team, also at the training ground at 11am.
The Austrian team is also hoping to be in attendance when United welcome Millwall in the second leg of the JPT area final, before finishing their stay with a round of Footgolf at Hinksey Heights on the Wednesday.
Russ told us:
“Last summer was fantastic for both clubs and this will be a brilliant experience for our young players. They will get to see how a professional team operates, on and off the pitch, and I know they are really looking forward to it.
“I think there was a real bond that built up at the game last year and it would be great to see everyone at the Kassam Stadium who was at the game or the barbecue in Austria.”
