"We started in the right frame of mind" - Appleton
Michael Appleton expressed his delight after Oxford United cruised to a 3-0 victory against 10-men Macclesfield in last night’s Emirates FA Cup second round replay.
Appleton told Yellow Player HD: “I thought the lads were professional from start to finish. They kept their discipline and even before their player was sent off the game itself was completely different to the one at Moss Rose. We started in the right frame of mind and took that on into the rest of the game.”
Appleton went on to say that it was an opportunity to give several players a breather before the important league game against Bury on Saturday: “There were positives all over. We were comfortable as the game went on, this was then helped when Macclesfield went down to 10 men just before half time.”
When asked about Aaron Martin’s injury, Appleton stated that it’s not great news: “I’m no doctor or medical person but I’m pretty sure he snapped his Achilles.
"The squad is down to bare bones but the team will have a well-earned day off, then we’ll regroup on Thursday and see where we’re at, then we’ve got three or four games to negotiate before the transfer window opens.”
