Second chance for the U's as they take on the Silkmen
Head Coach Michael Appleton is looking for a much improved performance from his side as they welcome Macclesfield Town for a second round replay on Tuesday night in the Emirates FA Cup.
“I want us to start better, definitely” Michael told Yellow Player HD. “I thought Macclesfield were on the front foot last Friday, certainly in the first 20 minutes. We never really played enough football in their half and almost got sucked into trying to be too clever when they were right on top of us. So we want to get them turning towards their own goal and then we know we can play. We dominate games at League 1 level so we have to try and make sure we dominate on Tuesday night.
“Whoever gets through will play Rotherham and all three clubs; us, Macclesfield and Rotherham, will see it as an opportunity to get through to the fourth round. We are excited to have a second opportunity to even contemplate that happening.”
United are on a six game unbeaten run but are still without long term absentees Liam Sercombe, Christian Ribeiro, Sam Long and Wes Thomas. With Joe Skarz again ruled out with a back injury Michael doesn’t have the luxury of being able to chop and change his side too much.
“There won’t be many changes because we are down to the group we had on Saturday” he said. “Charlie Raglan won’t be available under the terms of his loan so young Canice Carroll will come back into the squad.
“So it is the same group as for the previous couple of games and there won’t be too many changes: I think we are in the middle of a good spell at the moment, six games unbeaten and we want to progress into the next round. Macclesfield will be looking to do the same so it should be a good game.”
