U's get ready for the Big Kick Off
Oxford United took to the centre of the city of Oxford today to help spread the word about Saturday’s season opener at home to Chesterfield.
Alex MacDonald, John Lundstram and Benji Buchel visited the Radcliffe Camera and then climbed the steps to the top of St Mary’s Church for a fantastic panoramic view of the city of dreaming spires. Meanwhile mascot Olly the Ox was the subject of a twitter ‘#Where’s Olly’ trail, giving away five family tickets to this weekend’s first game back in League One in fifteen years.
Skipper Lundstram said:
“It was a side of Oxford that you hear so much about but we maybe hadn’t had a chance to go and look at before. The views from the top of the church were excellent and you get a real sense of the history and culture of the city.”
The players then joined Olly and club staff to take a walk around the rest of the town centre, handing out flyers and fixture cards to fans as they went. Managing Director Greig Box Turnbull, who was with the players, said:
“It is such a great place and we want the whole squad to know a little bit about the city that we represent. Just chatting to people in the town centre, there were lifelong fans coming up to wish the players well for Saturday and it was a great way to show the connection between the club, the university and the whole city of Oxford.”
Saturday’s game is a massive one with a bumper crowd expected for the Big Kick Off. Some areas towards the centre of of the stands are already close to selling out so if you are coming to join us then make sure you book as early as possible to get the best view of all the action.
