Buchel gets his chance with the U's
Oxford United are pleased to announce that Goalkeeper Benjamin Buchel has agreed to join the club, subject to a medical.
The six foot two goalkeeper has nine caps for Liechtenstein and originally came to the UK to join AFC Bournemouth in 2012. He has had spells on loan at Dorchester Town, Poole Town, Havant and Waterlooville and Welling United over the last two seasons but returned to his native country after being released by newly-promoted Bournemouth at the end of last season.
Having impressed on trial with the U’s he has now agreed a deal that will see him stay at Oxford until the end of the season.
Head Coach Michael Appleton said:
“He’s a good keeper who we’ve seen play for Bournemouth and been very impressed. He has a bit of experience and bringing another keeper in will hopefully allow Max Crocombe to go out on loan and play matches, which is what he needs at this stage. Sam Slocombe has done ever so well but we want him to be pushed all the way and bringing Benji into the club will certainly do that.”
Benjamin said:
“I have enjoyed my time in England and am really happy to have an opportunity here at Oxford. They have made an excellent start and I am looking forward to what I am sure will be a successful season.”
