Appleton Wise to Morecambe Threat

Head Coach looks ahead to facing Morecambe

Oxford United face another tough test this weekend when they welcome Morecambe to the Kassam Stadium in Sky Bet League 2.

The U’s in fifth, are on the same number of points as Jim Bentley’s seventh placed Shrimps and Head Coach Michael Appleton is all too aware of the dangers his side face on Saturday.

“Jim has been there for a while now and has a great understanding of this league, and the players that you need to do well in it” Michael told Yellow Player HD.

“Morecambe always tend to get off to a good start and I’m sure that Jim and all of his staff will be determined to keep them up there this season and not fall away. They are up there for a reason and are a very adventurous side. They are a decent team and they play with no fear, which makes them dangerous.

“They will come to Oxford expecting to win. They score a lot of goals and we have to be mindful of that and defend properly, and try and hurt them when we get the ball. We just have to make sure we are better than them on the day.”

The U’s have no fresh injury worries and with Ryan Taylor and Patrick Hoban on the scoresheet in a 4-2 Development Side win at Barnet there is fierce competition for starting places right now.

“That’s important” Michael said. “I made it clear a few weeks back that we will have these games, and it was important for Ryan to score and for Pat to get his goal- he has got a few now in those games and it’s important to hit the back of the net. We have a good squad and we know we have players raring to go when called upon.”

United signed Physics graduate Jonny Giles this week- does Michael think intelligence helps footballers? Find out only in Yellow Player HD where we also have the Preview Show plus great chats with Danny Hylton and Johnny Mullins ahead of Saturday’s game.
