United win prize for their WSL match day experience
Oxford United Women have won £1,000 from the Women's Super League as a prize for their excellent match day experience at games last season. This is the first time that the award has been given, having been introduced to recognise the outstanding efforts of clubs competing in the WSL. The award was based on feedback received by anonymous families sent by the WSL to each club's games last season.United's improved facilities at WSL games include the introduction of a healthy kids' snack box, in addition to the standard football food available at the Northcourt Road ground. United also introduced Olly's Den, providing kids with pre-match and half-time activities and coaches provided by the Community Trust free of charge. The club continued its popular Match Day Experience package, in which local grassroots teams could experience an OUWFC coaching session and speak to the players as female sporting role models. In addition, the club introduced an 'autograph alley', where supporters could collect autographs of both home and away players and witness post-match media sessions.
Supporter Liaison Officer Sarah Gooding said: "We're very honoured to have been awarded this prize. It's great to see more families supporting women's football and we've received a fantastic amount of feedback saying what a brilliant afternoon it is for both adults and juniors.
"The prize money will be reinvested into further improving the match day experience for the 2016 WSL season."
