Michael Appleton gives his reaction as United and the Iron head for a replay
Oxford United will face Braintree Town for a second time after the two sides drew 1-1 in the FA Cup first round on Sunday. Ryan Taylor’s first half goal was cancelled out by a fine strike from Kenny Davis to earn the National League side a replay at the Kassam Stadium next week.
“When you break the game down we should have won the game quite comfortably” Michael Appleton told Yellow Player HD after seeing his side create plenty of chances. “But that’s how cup games go, and as an FA Cup tie it had everything that most people up and down the country would expect from a first round tie.
“We won’t be kidding ourselves that the jobs over, the replay will be just as tough. And I won’t be pulling any punches in terms of making the players aware that we should have put the game well out of sight before Braintree got their equaliser. We made it very difficult for ourselves going down to ten men, but if anything we started moving the ball around really well at that stage and creating lots of chances.
“We still had to ask Benji to make a save in the last minute, but we are in the hat and we move forward. We have a good group who are very resolute and who are going to have to show that over the next few weeks.”
