Maguire joins the U's on loan from the Millers
Oxford United have further strengthened their squad with a second loan signing today.
Striker Chris Maguire is a Scottish international who joins the U’s on loan from Rotherham United until January 16th.
The 26-year-old forward began his career with Aberdeen, making over 100 appearances before joining Derby County. It was at Portsmouth that he first worked alongside U’s Head Coach Michael Appleton who took him on loan to Fratton Park. A permanent move to Sheffield Wednesday in 2012 saw Maguire score 18 times in 78 starts for the Owls before he joined Rotherham this summer.
Michael Appleton said
“I’ve worked with him before and know he will fit in here. He is a full international, he has played at a higher level, and he has a fantastic winning mentality. He will want to impress here and can play in a number of roles across the front line.
“We are waiting for confirmation on Ryan Taylor but it looks like he will be out of action for a month or so with the groin injury he picked up on Tuesday against Newport, but we have acted quickly to bring Chris in to the squad and he will be an excellent addition.”
Chris joins fellow new boy Jordan Evans in the United squad to travel to Hartlepool on Saturday after Evans signed a similar loan from Fulham this morning.
