Everton Ladies the next visitors in WSL 2
Everton Ladies are Oxford United Women's next opponents in WSL 2 when they visit the Northcourt in Abingdon this Sunday (2pm).Everton are one of the biggest names in domestic women's football but they were relegated from WSL 1 last season and so will come to Abingdon as United's equals this weekend.
The sides met two seasons ago in the FAWC at the Kassam Stadium, where almost 1,000 spectators watched as the Toffees swept United aside on their way to the cup final, where they were beaten by Arsenal.
Women's manager Les Taylor said of that game: "It was a one-off game in a season where we won our league and did extremely well. It was maybe a reality check and to be in the same league as Everton is a mark of just how far we have come."
United's women are on a three-game unbeaten streak, having drawn at league leaders Reading followed by two home wins against Durham and, last Sunday, London Bees. This has lifted the U's to fifth in the table, one place and one point ahead of Everton. With Oxford's confidence sky high this promises to be a great match.
Tickets for the game at Abingdon United's Northcourt Road ground cost just £5 for adults and £2 for under-16s and over-45s. Parking is plentiful and free and there is always a great welcome at the ground.
