Defender signs for the U's on three year deal
Oxford United are pleased to announce that defender Joe Skarz has agreed a new three year deal with the club.
Skarz played a major role in United’s excellent end to the season after joining on loan from Rotherham United, playing 18 times and helping the side end the season on an eight game unbeaten run. He told us:
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club and am really looking forward to next season. The Board and the Manager are very ambitious and have big plans for the club and I want to play a part in that.
“Everyone, from the players to the fans, has made me feel very welcome and we ended the season so positively that I can’t wait to get back for pre-season and playing again.”
Head Coach Michael Appleton said:
“Joe is an excellent defender and a great pro to have around the club. He has won promotion from this league, and the one above, and his experience will be a massive plus for us next season. There was a lot of interest from other clubs but it speaks volumes for Oxford United that he has seen what we are starting to build here and wants to be involved.”
Skarz, 25, started his career at home town club Huddersfield where he played over 60 games before a permanent deal to Bury where he was part of the side that won League 2 in 2011, with Joe being named in the divisional side of the season. He then moved on to Rotherham United, initially on loan, winning promotion from League 2 and League One in successive seasons.
