Michael Appleton gets set for Tuesday
Oxford United welcome Hartlepool to the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday night looking to build on a five game unbeaten run that has included four clean sheets. The U’s have opened up a nine point gap from the bottom two clubs but Head Coach Michael Appleton insists that his side will continue to fight for every single ball tomorrow and in each of the last ten games.
“Every point is going to be crucial for all teams between now and the end of the season” he told Yellow Player. “Whether you are fighting at the bottom or going for promotion, every game means something.
“Hartlepool will be fighting for their lives so they are very dangerous opponents and they won their last game up at Morecambe so they will come here with a lot of confidence as well. They only lost to Burton in their previous game in the 93rd minute so they are certainly fighting for everything at the moment, but I think our players are showing that same fight in every game as well.
“The fact that I’ve not had to change it too much over the last five games helps get a bit of consistency. Four clean sheets in five games is great and the back four plus Clarkey will be delighted with that but I think that starts up top and everyone defends as a team when we need to.
“There are a couple of knocks but as we know when you are on a good run nobody wants to miss out so I’m sure they will all be fit and ready to go again tomorrow!”
