British Army troops entertain OUFC fans with Kassam Stadium invasion
On Saturday 28th March soldiers from the British Army will march on The Kassam stadium as Oxford United Football Club celebrate their second annual Military Day. A huge success in 2014, the troops will once again entertain and engage U’s supporters with a range of military activities, this time ahead of the crucial League Two match with Carlisle. From midday, troops from the Army Careers Centre Oxford Recruiting Group will be situated around the ground, giving supporters the inside track, and the opportunity to experience what it’s like, to be a soldier. Thrill-seeking supporters will have the chance to test their endurance levels on a challenging inflatable assault course, or try their hands at laser clay-pigeon shooting. Those looking to warm up for the game in less strenuous style will be able to join in face-painting sessions, and sit back and take in a spectacular light-gun missile display by the Royal Artillery.
The club is proud to welcome back the Army Careers Centre Oxford, who they have fostered a strong relationship with over the past 18 months. Earlier this year, Corporal Paul Ingham, Royal Engineers Recruitment Coordinator, hosted a team-building workshop for 12 youngsters during Oxford United’s week-long community scheme, United We Achieve. An on-going programme, United We Achieve aims to help unemployed youngsters from Oxfordshire, some with difficult home lives, get into full-time employment.
Mark Ashton, CEO at Oxford United Football Club, said: “Following the success of last year’s Military Day, we are delighted to be able to welcome back the team from Army Careers Centre Oxford. They’ve got a terrific programme of activities set up for Saturday, which I’m sure our supporters will love. There’ll be a great atmosphere in and around the ground, that will hopefully translate to the players. It should be a cracking day.”
