Three Youngsters Get Their Chance

Three more exciting prospects step up as pros with the U's

There have been three new faces in the first team squad this summer with three more of United’s  promising young players making the step up to become professionals.

Full-back Freddie Grant, centre-half Robbie Cundy and midfielder Adriel ‘AJ’ George have all been offered the chance to turn pro after spending two years as scholars with the club.

Grant,18, is equally at home at right and left-back and can also play in the middle of defence. He spent time on loan at both Margate and Farnborough last season. Cundy, 18, is a tall defender who returned to his home town club at 16 after leaving Aston Villa. He was on loan at both Daventry and Chesham United last season. George has been with the club the longest time having joined the Centre of Excellence aged just nine. Last summer he was called into the Antigua and Barbuda under-20 squad. He can play all across the midfield and also up front.

Coach Chris Allen, who worked with them for the last two years, believes they have the qualities to succeed:

“They have a wonderful opportunity in front of them” he said. “They have worked hard for the last two years and going out on loan to play senior football has helped all of them. They are all bright enough to know that this is just the beginning but they deserve their chance and I’m sure they will do well.
