Brindley signs for United
Oxford United have further strengthened their squad with the arrival of defender Richard Brindley from Rotherham United, initially on a one-month loan.
Brindley began his career at his hometown club Norwich City before catching the eye during a spell at Chelmsford City. The 21-year-old right back attracted interest from a number of Football League clubs and joined Chesterfield in January 2013.
The following season he moved to Rotherham United, signing at the same time as Joe Skarz who also joined the U’s this week. Having spent time on loan at Scunthorpe United in December 2014, Richard returned to Rotherham in time to play, and score, in their recent FA Cup game against AFC Bournemouth.
“He is a good player who we have watched a number of times and think will do a really good job for us on that right flank,” said United Head Coach Michael Appleton. “He has pace, is solid defensively but also loves to get forward and we are looking forward to working with him.”
Richard was pleased to be joining the U’s and will be involved for the first time when they take on Stevenage away this Saturday.
“I have been really impressed with Oxford,” he said. “I have played against them and heard a lot of good things. Obviously I spoke to Joe Skarz this week when he joined, and I know they are an ambitious club looking to get up the leagues. I’m looking forward to hopefully playing a part in that.”
