Hat-trick for George Jeacock earns win for U's
Oxford United under-18s 4 Cambridge United 0Oxford United’s under-18s had an excellent 4-0 win over Cambridge United in Merit League 2 last Saturday. George Jeacock scored a hat-trick, while Kieran Diaz-Benitez scored from the edge of the box from a set piece. The half-time score was 2-0.
Coach Leon Blackmore-Such talked us through the game:
“The boys did really well against a Cambridge side that had lost their first game, like us. We had lots of possession and there were loads of bright things in there - we created lots of chances, as always, in both halves. We do need to improve our finishing though.
“The way we played was really promising. We moved the ball around well and Jack Stevens didn’t have much to do in goal. Without disrespecting Cambridge we have come up against a lot better sides but we applied ourselves well and got a 4-0 win. It was good to turn it around after some disappointing results recently, but the performance was of a similar standard to where we’re at.
“Canice Carroll, an under-16, did really well when he came on with good distribution. It’s good to get the younger ones involved.
“We’ve got Gillingham away on Saturday and we hope for another win. We played them pre-season and drew 2-2 so they’re of a similar standard to us. They have some bright players, as do we.”
