New board member for the U's
Oxford United are pleased to confirm the addition of David Jones as non-executive director to the club’s board.
David, who will continue in his role as a Premier League presenter on Sky Sports, will advise the board on all matters, bringing with him almost 20 years of experience in journalism and football.
David said: “This is a hugely exciting opportunity for me to use the knowledge, experience and contacts I’ve gathered in my career so far to help grow a very ambitious football club.
“I’ve been very impressed with the plans Darryl and Mark have for Oxford United. Clearly it is a club with vast potential, and I’m delighted to be part of the team.
"I remain as committed to Sky and my broadcasting career as ever, and while this role will no doubt give me a greater insight into the inner workings of football I will also be bringing with me a unique perspective."
Chairman Darryl Eales said: “David and I have chatted over the past 18 months and we have shared views on how football clubs should operate and, in particular, how to build real fan engagement. David has a wealth of knowledge as well as an incisive intellect and I am delighted that he has agreed to join the Board as we seek to move the club forward on all fronts. I think we will all benefit from both his insight and enthusiasm."
David, who hails from the north east, joined Sky in 1998 for the launch of the 24 hour channel Sky Sports News before moving on to become a presenter of live football. He has fronted hundreds of live matches at all levels of the game and has developed good working relationships with the Premier League, the Football League, the FA, PFA and the LMA.
He currently hosts Saturday Night Football on Sky Sports with among others Jamie Redknapp, Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher and Thierry Henry.
