Skipper pressing for cup recall. Early team news right here
There was good news for the U’s ahead of Sunday’s Emirates FA Cup home game against Forest Green Rovers with captain Jake Wright back in full training and hoping to be available for the second round tie.
Jake has been missing since a back spasm suffered during the home game against Barnet but has made a full recovery and could feature as the U’s look to make progress in the cup.
“He trained for the first time yesterday” Head Coach Michael Appleton told Yellow Player HD. “He looked OK and we will take a look at him again today and see how things settle down, but if there is no reaction then he will train Friday and Saturday with an eye to Sunday’s game.
“Chey Dunkley and Johnny Mullins have done very well as a partnership and nobody is guaranteed a place; that’s why we have put together a squad where there is competition for every position.”
Sam Long’s return saw him play a full 90 minutes for the Development Side in a 3-0 win over Kidderminster Harriers yesterday, adding to the defensive options as the U’s begin a run of three home games in three different competitions.
Sunday sees Forest Green Rovers look to cause an upset at the Kassam Stadium, Tuesday will see United take on Yeovil Town in the Johnstone’s Paint area semi-final, while the following Saturday see the table-topping U’s welcome Carlisle United in Sky Bet League 2.
Prices are reduced for both cup games while fans with a ticket stub from the last home game against Newport can buy a Carlisle ticket at less than half price.
