The Head Coach's programme notes for Carlisle

After another busy week it is important that we keep our foot down and try and end it with another win against Carlisle this afternoon.

I was delighted with the attitude that the players showed at home to Forest Green and Yeovil on Sunday and Tuesday but by far the biggest match this week is today, because it is a league game. We have worked very hard to claw back the gap that Plymouth had over us and reach the top of the table so now it is up to us to prove that we deserve to be where we are.

The Yeovil match was a decent game with three good goals to win it. Jordan Evans smashed in a great first goal but you have to give Yeovil some credit for coming back into it. An early goal will have ruined their game plan but they showed plenty of fight, as we knew they would under their new manager. The turning point was probably just before half time when Callum scored to make it 2-1.

I was pleased for Chris Maguire. Any striker wants to get off the mark early so a good goal like that in front of the home fans will help him settle in. I was also pleased with the attitude and commitment from players like Sam Long and Josh Ruffels who haven’t had a lot of game time so far this season but remain an integral part of the squad. Danny Rose did great two days earlier as well, so when we have called on players they have stepped straight into the side. I thought Jake Wright did very well on his return at the back.

Carlisle have had a tough week due to the flooding in the area and I am sure that they will want to give their fans something to cheer about today. They have been in the play-off fight all season and are the top scorers in the division so it is going to be interesting to see who comes out on top.

Finally, my thoughts and best wishes go to the family of Alan Hodgkinson. To work for 60 years in football and to have the respect of everyone in the game is a wonderful achievement and on behalf of all of the coaching staff we offer our condolences to his family and friends.
