Michael Appleton on Yeovil win
Oxford United’s unbeaten start to the season continued with a 2-0 win over Yeovil Town on Saturday, moving the U’s into the top five in the early league table. Head Coach Michael Appleton was delighted with his side and believes that scoring the first goal for the first time in the league this season gave the U's a big lift.
“The only other time we have gone in front with the first goal was at Brentford so we talked about that before the game and not giving ourselves a hill to climb. I think the goal settled a few people down and we looked a real top side today.”
The only question was how many United would score as they dominated the Glovers.
“We will get better in terms of finishing and being a little bit more clinical as players get sharper through the season” Michael said. “But equally it would have been very easy for defenders to switch off and lose concentration so I was delighted with the way we never let Yeovil back into the game.”
United now head for Bristol Rovers next Sunday looking to extend an unbeaten run that stretches back to March.
“When we started this season I was a little bit wary of using the way we ended last season because that is gone now” Michael told Yellow Player HD.” But when you add it up that is 13 games now and that’s a record to be proud of. Everyone at the club, supporters, staff and players should be proud of it and we’re not going to let that go easily.”
