Under 18s make it four unbeaten
United’s under 18s made it four games unbeaten as they drew 1-1 away at Portsmouth on Saturday. A first half goal from trialist Josh Williams was cancelled out in the second half leaving Coach Chris Allen to reflect on what might have been:“We were very positive and did well “ Chris said. “We made a really bright start and we had a lot of possession. When we needed to we defended strongly as well. Miles Welch-Hayes and Charlie Hawtin did well as the full-backs and Cian McCormack and Robbie Cundy looked strong as the centre-halves.
“We had already created a couple of opportunities before we took the lead on 20 minutes. AJ George created a bit of space around the edge of the area and Josh finished it well to make it 1-0. We might have got another before the break but then in the second half we gave away a free kick on the edge of our box and the lad took it well to make it 1-1.
“Even then we created chances again but we hadn’t capitalised in the spells where we had been on top, and that was the lesson to learn from another game that we might have won. Not taking anything away from the lads though. They are learning fast and looking very sharp at the moment.”
