Youth team and women all at home
It’s not just the first team who have a home game this weekend, the youth team and women are also playing at home.
First into action are Chris Allen’s under 18s who welcome Swindon Town to the Oxford Sports and Social ground on Saturday morning (11am)
A win over Bristol Rovers last weekend means the U’s go into the game in good spirits as Chris told us:
“We are picking up results and we have been playing some decent football so the lads have trained really well this week and are looking forward to Saturday.
“There’s always a little bit of extra spice when any Oxford side takes on Swindon so it will be a really good game I’m sure.”
The first team then welcome Stevenage to the Kassam Stadium on Saturday (3pm) before the Women’s side round off the weekend with a home game against Durham at Abingdon United on Sunday. Please note that this game kicks off at midday rather than the usual 2pm.
A win over Millwall in their last game boosted Les Taylor’s side and the Manager believes it is vital that they maintain their form over the closing month of their season:
“We had been playing OK but not getting results and when that happens it is only natural for doubts to sneak in to players’ minds” Les said. “It has been a tough season in many ways but we have learned so much from the experience and having drawn against London Bees - and then only because of a last gasp equaliser from them after we had led for 87 minutes- we have just started to get a few results and show what we can do.
“Next season we will be able to draw on a full year at this level and some valuable lessons, but there are still five games to go and it is important that we finish as strongly as we can.”
Admission is just £5 adults and £2 for under 16s and over 65s on Sunday while the youth team game is free to watch.
