Young U's beaten in Football League Youth Alliance
Oxford United’s under 18s slipped to their first defeat in six games as they lost 1-0 at Newport County on Saturday.“It was our worst performance so far and the lads know it” Coach Chris Allen told us. ”It was disappointing because we didn’t see it coming. We have done really well in the last three or four games but whether it was the journey or something in the build-up, we were flat from the start.
“Sometimes if you have two or three players off form you get away with it, but we had more than that below their best so it was hard. In saying that, we still had chances to get something out of the game.
"The only goal came when Newport got a break away and a shot that Eddie Cavanagh saved. He then saved the follow up well, but nobody on our side was following in to help him out and we went 1-0 down.
“Our final ball was missing too often but Newport worked very hard and we have to learn to do that as well, every single week.”
