George at the double as youth team keep unbeaten run going
United’s under 18 side continue to gather pace with an excellent 4-2 win over Plymouth on Saturday. Chris Allen’s youth side are five games unbeaten now after two goals from AJ George and further strikes from Jordan Graham and Josh Williams earned them all three points against The Pilgrims.
Chris told us:
“We played really well and I don’t say that very often! It was a performance that we have been building up to since we played Newport at the start of September. We have done well ever since then and had a number of very positive performances but perhaps not scored the goals we should have done. Against Plymouth we played well and kept our shape but we also took our chances so it all gelled together.
“We went 1-0 up when AJ George played it in to Josh Williams who played him in and AJ finished it well. The front two looked very good and very dynamic all game. Jordan Graham got our second when Josh played him in again and he finished by passing into the net.
“Josh got our third and kept his good scoring run going since he joined as a scholar. He found himself half a yard and finished well. Then right at the death Seth Humphries was fouled and AJ scored the penalty.
“There are always lessons to be learned and we conceded two goals from switching off. We should have been home and clear but if you give the opposition chances they will always be in the game so we have to cut out the sloppy goals. It should have been a clean sheet but going forward we were very strong and like I say I was really pleased with the lads.”
